The city of San Pedro was presented the GOLD AWARD by the Department of Interior and Local Government – Regional Office during the 2016 Manila Bay Day (Environmental Compliance Audit (ECA) Conferment held last December 14, 2016 at Hotel H2O, Manila Ocean Park Complex, Manila.
The award was given to an LGU unit recognizing their initiative in contributing to the environment based on the implementation of Republic Act 9003- “An act providing for an ecological solid waste management program, creating the necessary institutional mechanism and incentives, declaring certain acts prohibited and providing penalties, appropriating funds therefore, and for other purposes”.
From being SILVER AWARDEE last year, the city of San Pedro bagged the GOLD AWARD surpassing 1st class cities of Laguna namely San Pablo and Santa Rosa in terms of Environmental Compliance. On behalf of City Mayor Lourdes S. Cataquiz, the award was received by City Environmental and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), Head, Marilou Q. Balba, along with City of San Pedro DILG Officer Jennifer Quirante and CENRO consultant on solid waste, Editha M. Rey.
According to CENRO Head, Marilou Balba, this award will encourage city’s constituents to continue and support the environmental projects such as regular clean-up, Synchronized Barangay Clean-Up, which will be conducted every Saturday of the month, and the waste management programs of the city. “Change begins within us. Environment plays a crucial role in our society; therefore, we have the responsibility of being involved and actively participate in protecting our environment.” She added.
City Mayor Lourdes S. Cataquiz congratulates the CENRO office for their efforts in instigating awareness in the protection of the environment through different programs and projects that she has fully supported ever since. She also added that the city of San Pedro will aim for the Platinum Award proving everyone in the city is an instrument of protecting the environment. She also encourages each and everybody to join in and be part of the CENRO projects.
