Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR Region 4-CALABARZON), Engr. Edsel Tadeo, Engr. Joey Perez, Engr. Adonis T. Tomaro and Engr. Carter Daba made a courtesy call to Mayor Lourdes S. Cataquiz in connection to the proposed Laguna Sub Airshed. The courtesy call was held last Nov. 29, 2016 at the Mountain View, Office of the Mayor, City Hall of San Pedro, Laguna after the Training on Air Pollution Mapping spearheaded by DENR in cooperation with the City Environment and Natural Resources Office headed by Engr. Marilou Q. Balba.
The training on Air Pollution Mapping discussed the importance of Sub Airshed as per the Clean Air Act, to achieve and maintain clean air that meets the national air quality guidelines for criteria. During the training, DENR representatives explain why the city of San Pedro, along with Biñan, Santa Rosa and Calamba will be included in the Sub Airshed Governing Board. According to their studies, due to geographical location of the cities, which is located near Manila, the air pollutants from Manila reaches the nearby provinces; hence, Sub Airshed is needed.
Sub Airshed Governing Board shall formulate policies and set standards in conformity with national law, plan and prepare common action plan, monitor and implement programs and submit & publish an annual air quality status report.
In line with this, a free emission air quality test was conducted to show awareness on how pollution from vehicles affect our society. Also a demo of emission test was held last November 29, 2016 at the city hall grounds conducted by the DENR representatives.
Also in attendance were, City Administrator Filemon Sibulo, tech support Gani Alvar, Inventor Roderick Nicolas, PG ENRO – Laguna, Evangeline Nicandro, Ricarte Castillo and Ace Somera, CENRO Biñan, Rogelio Zapata, Michael Mercado, Rodelio Lee and Francisco Franco Potenciano, CENRO Cabuyao, Engr. Noli Punongbayan, Laarni A. Madella and Lan Caldito, CENRO Calamba, Ronn Marta Reyes, Antonio Almeida, Charles Joseph Cadillo, Lilibeth Antonio, Warren Guinto and Editha Rey.
